A 15-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina that killed five people, including an officer: police

On Thursday, a shooter opened fire along a walking trail in the capital city of North Carolina. The suspect eluded officers for many hours before being captured in a residence and taken into custody, officials said. The shooter was responsible for the deaths of five individuals.

The suspect, who is a 15-year-old child, is responsible for the deaths of many people, including an off-duty police officer. According to the officials, he was taken into custody at approximately 9:37 p.m. His true identity has not been made public.

According to a briefing report provided by the federal government, the suspect “was taken into custody with injuries that posed a threat to his life…

It is not known whether the suspect injured themselves intentionally or not at this time.”

On Friday morning, law enforcement authorities were seen inspecting a residence that was located close to the scene of the incident.

Estella Patterson, the Chief of Police in Raleigh, made the statement on Friday that “We do not have answers as to why this tragedy occurred.”

The ages of those who have passed away range anywhere from 16 to 52. The off-duty police officer, who had just turned 29 years old, was on his way to work when he was assassinated.

Officials have given the ages of those who perished as 52-year-old Nicole Conners, 34-year-old Mary Marshall, 49-year-old Susan Karnatz, 16-year-old James Roger Thompson, and 29-year-old Officer Gabriel Torres.

According to the chief, the location of the murder scene covers over 2 kilometers. She used the word “long” to characterize the standoff with the shooter.

According to the chief of police, shooting occurred in the street before the attacker fled toward the greenway, where further people were shot.

According to Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin, the gunshots started around five o’clock in the afternoon along the Neuse River Greenway in a residential neighborhood located northeast of downtown. During the search for the gunman, officers from a large number of different law enforcement organizations descended upon the region, shutting off roads and advising inhabitants to remain inside their homes.

Two individuals, including another member of the police force, were sent to local hospitals. However, the second 59-year-old survivor remained in critical condition even after the officer was eventually discharged from the hospital.

“This evening, the threat of terror has arrived at our doorstep. The worst-case scenario that every town and city dreads has finally arrived in Raleigh. This is an act of violence that is both horrifyingly senseless and extremely infuriating, and it has been perpetrated” According to Governor Roy Cooper, reporters were told.

Baldwin joined Cooper in condemning the violence, but the authorities did not provide any specifics on the possible cause for the attack.

The mayor was quoted as saying, “We must put an end to this senseless violence in America, and we must confront gun violence.” “We have a lot of work ahead of us, and tonight we have a lot to be sad about.”

The shooting in Raleigh was the most recent incident of a violent week that occurred around the country. On Sunday, there was a shooting at a home in Inman, South Carolina, which resulted in the deaths of five persons. On Wednesday night in Connecticut, two police officers were tragically shot after allegedly being drawn into an ambush by an emergency call about probable domestic violence. Both cops were killed. During the course of this week, law enforcement personnel have been fired upon in Greenville, Mississippi; Decatur, Illinois; Philadelphia; Las Vegas; and central Florida. Two of those cops were ultimately taken from us; one in Greenville and one in Las Vegas.

According to the database maintained by The Associated Press, USA Today, and Northeastern University, the shooting that took place on Thursday was the 25th incident of mass murder that took place in 2022. The victims all died from their wounds. A homicide that results in the deaths of four or more individuals, not including the offender, is considered a mass killing.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Brooke Medina, a resident of the community that borders the greenway, was driving home when she observed over two dozen police cars, both marked and unmarked, speed toward the residential area located approximately 9 miles from Raleigh’s downtown. After that, she noticed ambulances racing in the opposite direction, in the direction of the nearest hospital.

She and her husband, who was working from home with their four children, began reaching out to neighbors, and it was at that point that they realized there was an order to shelter in place.

According to Medina, who works as the communications vice president at a think tank, the family gathered together in an upstairs hallway after closing all of the window blinds, locking the doors, and ensuring that all of the doors were latched. Once it appeared that the threat had receded further away from their home, the family went back downstairs after listening to the police scanner and watching the local news.

“We are going to stay in one place for the rest of the night and maintain a heightened state of vigilance. Make sure that all of the lights are on and that the doors are locked “— I quote her.

She provided a description of the region that is referred to as Hedingham as being a large, thick, tree-lined community that is full of single-family houses, duplexes, and townhomes that are priced more cheaply in comparison to other areas in the Raleigh area.

At approximately five o’clock in the evening, Allison Greenawalt, age 29, who also resides in the neighborhood, was sitting on the couch with her cat when she heard “three bullets in a very rapid succession.” She stated that the cops arrived swiftly and that she is thankful that they were there during the tumultuous hours when she was hiding inside. She mentioned that she is thankful that they were there. Her husband, meantime, attempted to drive home from work after the shooting but was prevented from doing so by police officers who had closed adjacent roadways. As a result, he didn’t arrive home until approximately 10:30 p.m., according to what she said.

She stated that she had spent the bulk of the evening “sitting in our house with the lights turned off and the windows closed, just hoping to hear that” the gunman had been apprehended.
