Friday marked the beginning of the student loan debt forgiveness application’s beta testing by the US Department of Education.
In advance of the official launch of the Biden administration’s student debt relief program, applications were being accepted at StudentAid.gov to assist the department in fine-tuning its procedures.
The department stated that forms submitted during the beta testing period would be accepted and would not need to be resubmitted when the final program was launched.
“This testing period will allow the department to monitor site performance through real-world use,” a department spokesperson told news channels, “test the site before the official application launch, refine processes, and uncover any possible bugs before the official launch.”
Since President Biden announced the historic student loan forgiveness for borrowers of federal loans in August, some eligibility requirements have been relaxed. However, the White House has repeatedly stated that the application will be available in October.
