According to Illinois State Police, at least six people were injured in a serious multi-vehicle crash on the Eisenhower Expressway on Sunday morning.
Troopers from the Illinois State Police responded to a hit-and-run crash around 5:54 a.m. At approximately 5:29 a.m., a silver Infiniti struck an ISP squad and a Chicago Fire Department truck. A tow truck responding to the crash scene was struck shortly after by a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
Authorities said the firefighter was taken to Rush University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Five other people were taken to Mount Sinai and Stroger hospitals with minor injuries. The fifth individual was taken to an unidentified hospital.
Six other people on the scene also refused to be taken to the hospital. There were no injuries among ISP employees.
At 5:53 a.m., all I-290 outbound lanes were closed at South California Avenue on Chicago’s West Side, according to ISP. Around 6:58 a.m., all lanes were reopened.
