Police in Chicago are looking for surveillance video near Wrigley Field after two men were kidnapped and robbed in separate incidents within minutes.
“It’s kind of scary because a lot of my friends, we mostly hang out in Boystown but we walk back here so it’s just interesting and kind of scary that it happened in the neighborhood,” Shaun Kimbrow said.
According to police, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 3500-block of North Clark Street on Sunday around 1 a.m. when two people forced him into a gray sedan at gunpoint. He was driven a few blocks before being robbed of his phone and wallet and released.
Police said that fifteen minutes later, a 23-year-old man was standing in the 1100-block of West Addison Street when he was forced into a gray sedan at gunpoint, robbed of the same items, and eventually let go.
Neither of the victims was hurt.
“When it happens, it’s not good,” Lakeview resident Jared Hinton said. “A lot of people obviously go out and have a good time, but they don’t want to have to worry about that.”
“I mean, I feel pretty safe in this neighborhood today,” Lakeview resident Jason James said. “I’ve never had any experiences that would make me doubt that, but this is definitely an eye-opener.”
Both incidents occurred in CPD’s Town Hall District, where robbery reports are up 47 percent from last year and 13 percent from 2018.
Residents in Lakeview said they are more concerned than ever.
“And the person who got beat coming off the L, it really scares me a little bit,” Lakeview neighbor Kristina Schneider said.
No one is in custody, and Area Three Detectives are looking into it. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police.
