George Floyd’s young daughter, her mother, and their legal team have announced plans to sue Kanye West for a quarter-billion dollars in response to his recent comments about Floyd’s death.
Roxie Washington, Floyd’s only daughter Gianna’s mother, announced on Tuesday that she has hired a legal team to pursue Ye, his business partners, and associates for harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress. They are suing for $250 million in damages.
The family’s attorneys also claim to have sent a cease and desist letter to Kanye over his comments about Floyd’s fatal encounter with Minneapolis police.
Part of the letter reads, “Mr. Floyd’s cause of death has been well established by evidence presented in courts of law during the criminal and civil trials that followed his untimely and horrific death. Nonetheless, you have maliciously made inaccurate and unfounded statements, causing harm to Mr. Floyd’s estate and family.”
Kanye has received a lot of backlash for comments he made on an episode of “Drink Champs” in which he claimed George died from a fentanyl overdose and pre-existing conditions, rather than Derek Chauvin’s knee on his neck.
The Floyds claim Kanye’s statements are “blatantly false” and “malicious”… and that Kanye’s comments are “retraumatizing” Gianna and “creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”
The family’s lawyers demand that Kanye remove the interview and all of his similar statements about George from the Internet and refrain from mentioning Floyd’s name.
Philonise Floyd, George’s brother, told us on Monday that the family is dead set on taking legal action against Ye… and now Floyd’s baby mama and daughter are making the first move.
