Liquor store owner from Iraq, shot and killed during armed robbery attempt

During an attempt at armed robbery, the owner of a liquor store in West Ridge, an Iraqi refugee, was shot and killed.An armed robbery attempt on Monday night in the West Ridge neighborhood resulted in the fatal shooting of the owner of a liquor store.
The fatal shooting occurred at J & K Food & Liquor, 6320 N. Western Ave., just before 10 p.m.,in West Rogers Park, also known as West Ridge, between Devon and Rosemont Avenues.Shots were fired, and owner Salim Khamo, 66, died.


The suspect in the fatal shooting can be seen riding his bike up to the store in surveillance footage.
The man arrives by bike and parks his bike next to the store before entering.The man runs out of the building twenty seconds later, now on foot.He swerves into oncoming traffic after dropping his phone.
In addition, police issued a community alert late Tuesday that included surveillance images of the suspect.
