A woman and her baby were killed, and five others were injured in a crash in Lake County, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to a press release issued by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, a collision that occurred in the north suburbs on Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of a woman who was 29 years old and an infant who was 8 months old.

The sheriff’s office reported that at approximately 4:15 p.m., a Toyota Corolla driven by a Waukegan man who was 27 years old pulled out onto Green Bay Road near Atlantic Avenue in unincorporated Waukegan from a private parking lot that was located on the east side of the roadway. According to the police, a 34-year-old man from Zion was driving a Dodge Journey that was traveling north on Green Bay when it collided head-on with the Toyota.

According to the police, a Waukegan infant boy who was 8 months old and riding in the Toyota was restrained in a car seat behind the driver. Despite this, he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with critical injuries and ultimately passed away there.

A 29-year-old Waukegan woman who was riding as the front passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Both the woman who was driving the Toyota and the boy from Waukegan, who was 7 years old and was sitting behind the woman, were taken to Condell Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Dodge sustained serious injuries and was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for treatment.

Two other people who were riding in the Dodge, a man from Beach Park who was 19 years old and a man from Zion who was 24 years old, were also taken to Vista East Hospital with minor injuries.

According to the police, the collision caused significant damage to both of the vehicles.

The Technical Crash Investigations Unit of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into the incident.
