According to KHSB/KHOG, a married couple is in custody after a pregnant Arkansas woman and the baby she was carrying were discovered dead in southern Missouri.
Ashley Bush, 33, was 31 weeks pregnant at the time. Valkyrie Grace Willis was the name of her daughter.
The bodies of Bush and her daughter were discovered in separate locations, according to police. The baby was discovered on Wednesday, and Bush was discovered on Thursday.
Bush appeared to have died as a result of a gunshot wound.
Amber Waterman and Jamie Waterman, both of Jane, Missouri, were arrested on kidnapping charges. It was too early to speculate on a motive, according to law enforcement.
Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith said, “This is just a reminder that there is evil in the world,” “People commit heinous crimes. It’s unfathomable that someone would prey on a pregnant woman in her most vulnerable state, but that’s the world we live in.”
Bush was last seen getting into a pickup truck with a woman she met online named “Lucy.” on Monday. Bush had been looking for work from home opportunities, and “Lucy” had agreed to pick her up and take her to a job interview.
Later, authorities revealed that “Lucy” was actually Amber Waterman. Officials were unable to provide a precise timeline for the kidnappings and killings.
Bush was engaged to be married and had three children, ages 8, 7, and 2.
Bush’s fiancé, Josh Willis, said he is devastated by the news and is trying to stay strong for their daughter.
Willis stated in a statement: “The entire situation disgusts me. I wish Ashley and Valkyrie were still alive and here with us. I can’t believe there are people who would do something like this. She was a wonderful mother, a wonderful wife, and a very outgoing, caring, and kind individual. They deserved none of this. There are three wonderful children here who have recently lost their mother, best friend, and younger sister. I recently lost both my wife and daughter. We will all support each other through this, but we are all devastated by the entire situation. We were all hoping and praying for their safe return. I’ve given up on humanity. Everyone’s assistance has been greatly appreciated.”
