A man in Georgia rescued a child from a violent assault and held the perpetrator at gunpoint until police arrived.
Kelcey Willis, a gun-toting hero, told local news station WGXA that on Nov. 6, he stopped for an oil change at a Walmart in Warner Robins, Georgia, when he saw a man grab a screaming child from his car and drag him into the woods.
“The screaming got louder and louder, and that didn’t sit well with us,” Willis explained. “My first thought was to pull out my gun and go get that kid out of the woods.”
Willis claimed he followed the pair into the woods, where he witnessed the attacker throw the child to the ground and begin choking him. That’s when he pulled out his gun and grabbed the kid.
According to the Warner Robins Police Department, Haimnarine Doobay, 67, took a child from a vehicle into the woods behind the Walmart and choked the child. Willis, according to the report, held Doobay at gunpoint until officers arrived.
According to the department, Doobay was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to a child.
According to WGXA, the child, who was related to Doobay, was taken to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office juvenile department for follow-up and care.
“If I hadn’t stepped in and reacted as quickly as I did, the kid would probably be dead,” Willis said. “He would have choked the child to death.” He said the man was going to beat him and leave him for the animals once we got him out of the woods.”
