Customs and Border Patrol officers seized approximately 28 pounds of cocaine on Thursday at John F. Kennedy International Airport after discovering it hidden in the wheels of a passenger’s wheelchair.
Officers noticed that the wheels on a woman’s wheelchair were not turning, according to the agency.
They x-rayed the wheelchair while interviewing her and discovered that something was wrong inside the wheels.
A white powder that tested positive for cocaine was discovered in a sample.
The estimated street value of the approximately 28 pounds of cocaine seized is $450,000.
Emelinda Paulino De Rivas of the Dominican Republic, the passenger, was arrested for the illegal importation of a controlled substance and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
