The Adorable Small Town in Illinois Where You Can Still Have A Traditional Christmas

It’s that wonderful time of year again! If listening to carolers while sipping hot cocoa and seeing the colored lights seems like your ideal Christmas celebration, make your way to Woodstock, Illinois. You’ll find the old-fashioned Christmas you’re looking for, and maybe even some chestnuts cooking over an open fire.

Woodstock is located in Chicago’s northwest suburbs. The Lighting of the Square marks the beginning of the holiday season and brings the magic of Christmas to town.

Enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and donuts. There are activities for youngsters as well as food trucks. Santa makes a big appearance aboard an antique fire truck. Throughout December, you can visit Santa in the Christmas Hut.

Following that, watch the yearly Christmas parade. Wave to Santa and Mrs. Claus as the parade passes through Woodstock’s lovely brick streets.

Join Santa for cookies and churros after the procession.

A complimentary horse-drawn carriage trip around Woodstock Square is available.

They only give rides for a limited duration to protect the horses’ health and welfare. Wear something warm!

Take a picture in front of the life-size Christmas characters positioned across Woodstock Square as part of the Holiday Walk, including the teddy bear.

A stack of presents, a train, a gingerbread man, and a wreath are also available as photo props.

During the month of December, stop by the Casting Whimsy Tea Shop for a Christmas tea with finger appetizers.

The annual Holiday Lights Contest attracts homeowners, business owners, and entire blocks. At a predetermined date and time, all contestants turn on their lights, as though a switch in town was switched.

Get a map to see all of the homes and businesses that have entered the contest. There are six prize categories.

Make time to visit the Gingerbread House Walk as well. As you browse this year’s wonders, cast your vote for your favorite delicious creation.

The Woodstock Opera House hosts seasonal performances of The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol.

If you participate in the Legend of the Pickle Scavenger Hunt, you will try to find 20 distinct ornamental pickles concealed in local establishments. When you sign up for the event, you’ll receive a free jar of pickles.

According to the Pickle Legend, the first person to find the pickle ornament on the tree on Christmas morning will receive an additional gift or be blessed with a year of good fortune. Claussen pickles are manufactured and packaged in Woodstock, Illinois.

This year, go to Oney’s Tree Farm to find the perfect Christmas tree and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Follow the Holiday Tree Walk to observe at least 25 Christmas trees adorned by local organizations.
