Last week, the grave of renowned Chicago gangster Al Capone was vandalized in suburban Hillside.
According to Hillside police, the paint was discovered at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, where the Capone family is buried.
The word “Evil” is spray-painted in red on Capone’s grave stone, according to a photo posted on the Chicago History Instagram feed.
The graffiti was removed the same day it was discovered, according to police, though what appeared to be crimson specks of paint lingered on the tomb Sunday afternoon.
There were no suspects in custody.
An auction of Al Capone’s personal items, including his favorite rifle, fetched more than $3.1 million in 2021. Over 1,200 bids from all 50 states and several countries took part.
