Clarence Gilyard Jr., known for appearances in films like “Die Hard” and television shows like “Walker, Texas Ranger,” has died.
Gilyard’s death was announced Monday by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he lectured. He was 66.
Gilyard’s career spanned film, television, and theater. He first appeared as Sundown in “Top Gun,” and then as the computer whiz antagonist Theo in “Die Hard.”
He played Jimmy Trevette in “Matlock” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.”
Gilyard was born in Washington and came to Los Angeles in the late 1970s to pursue a career in acting. He took a hiatus from acting when “Walker, Texas Ranger” concluded in 2001 to pursue an MFA.
Gilyard reprised his role as “Die Hard” baddie Theo in a commercial for Advanced Auto Parts commemorating the company’s acquisition of the DieHard battery brand in 2020.
The reason of death has not been disclosed.
