Prosecutors have charged a teacher at an Elgin daycare with molesting at least two students over a 13-year period.
Frank Walaitis, 57, of Carpentersville, is charged with felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse on six counts. According to Kane County prosecutors, Walaitis sexually molested two children under the age of 13 while working as a teacher at the Learning Tree Elgin West daycare center on Royal Blvd. from December 2008 to July 2022.
The alleged abuse, according to authorities, occurred at the daycare center.
Prosecutors have not revealed any additional information, but they are afraid that there may be additional victims, and officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing. Prosecutors are asking anyone with knowledge on Walaitis to contact the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, which is handling the investigation in collaboration with Elgin police.
The Learning Tree regional director stated in a statement, “Our top focus is the safety and well-being of the children in our care. In this investigation, we are collaborating closely with the authorities. Throughout his employment, the individual had passed the State’s mandatory background check several times.”
“The employee was removed from the center as soon as the allegations were made, and his employment has been terminated.” the statement continued.
Walaitis is still being detained in detention on a $200,000 bond.
