For the past nine years, Robbie the dog has known only the walls of an animal shelter in suburban Chicago, but there is hope that he will spend Christmas in a real home this year.
Robbie was rescued by the non-profit Pets and Vets USA in 2014, just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized at a San Bernardino, California animal shelter. Since then, he has been living in a shelter in Roselle, Illinois.
There’s still hope that this year, someone with a warm heart will offer Robbie a warm bed just in time for Christmas.
“It’s a shame, because he’s a wonderful dog and has such a personality,” said Pets and Vets founder Peter Cangelosi. “He’s like a puppy for being ten and a half, eleven years old. He has more energy than any of our other dogs.”
Robbie, who is 11 years old, healthy, vaccinated, and microchipped, will have his adoption fees waived by Pets and Vets. He is best suited to a home without children, though he gets along with other dogs.
