A 99-year-old woman died in a South Chicago fire.

A 99-year-old woman died early Friday morning after a fire broke out in her South Chicago home.

Just after midnight, crews responded to a residential fire in the 8200 block of South Saginaw Avenue, according to Chicago police.

The elderly woman was taken to Trinity Hospital by the Chicago Fire Department, where she died as a result of her injuries, according to police.

Almaisa Herard was identified as the victim by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She died at 1:05 a.m. and lived on the same street.

There were no other injuries reported.

Later Friday morning, Chicago fire officials will be in the area distributing smoke detectors and fire safety literature.
