One person was killed and several others were injured in a 50-car crash on the Ohio Turnpike.

At least one person has been killed in a series of winter weather-related crashes on the Ohio Turnpike.

According to WTVG, the fatality occurred in Sandusky County, which is located between Toledo and Cleveland.

Multiple injuries have also been reported, and authorities believe heavy winds and snow are to blame.

The collisions involved approximately 50 vehicles.

Officials are using buses to transport stranded travelers to warm-weather shelters.

For nearly 20 miles, the turnpike, also known as Interstate 80, is closed in both directions.
