A goose that had frozen to the sand was rescued at the Indiana Dunes.

On Monday, conservation officers in Indiana had to rescue a Canada goose that had become stranded on the shore of Lake Michigan.

This happened at Indiana Dunes National Park.

Several good Samaritans attempted, but failed, to free the goose. As a result, they summoned first responders.

The goose was safely removed with the assistance of the Porter Volunteer Firefighters and is now housed in an animal sanctuary.

As the cold snap continues, temperatures in the Chicago area remained below freezing on Monday.

As the week progresses, residents can expect more mild temperatures.
