Police say a woman in Chicago stabbed a chihuahua several times while the teen was out walking.

A woman is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a chihuahua while it was out for a walk with a teenage girl in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood on the Northwest Side on Monday afternoon.

Jeanette Olivo, 61, stopped to talk to a 15-year-old girl who was walking her 12-year-old dog, Bebe, outside her apartment building in the 6600 block of West Irving Park Road around 3:15 p.m., according to officials.

Olivo then ran towards the dog and stabbed it with a knife, according to police. According to court documents, the girl attempted to flee with Bebe, but Olivo pursued them and stabbed the dog several more times.

Olivo fled the scene and was apprehended one block away, according to police.

Bebe was seriously injured and had surgery to treat the various stab wounds.

Olivo of Portage Park was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
