Chicago shootings: 30 wounded and 8 killed over the weekend, according to police.

At least thirty people, including eight fatalities, were shot in Chicago over the weekend, according to police.


A 9-year-old boy was fatally shot inside a home on the South Side of Chicago on Sunday. According to police, the shooting occurred in the 9400 block of S Wallace Street. Unknown condition, the child was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital. Detectives from District 2 are investigating.

A man was fatally shot on the West Side sidewalk of Austin on Sunday afternoon. The 52-year-old was outside in the 5000 block of West Superior Avenue just before 4:20 p.m. when a vehicle drove up and an occupant fired shots, according to Chicago police. Police say the victim was shot in the head and chest. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he passed away. There were no arrests reported. It was the fourth homicide in Chicago in 2023.

Chicago police reported that one teen was killed and three others were injured in a shooting on the city’s South Side on Sunday afternoon. The vehicle of the victims, according to police, was stolen on December 30. At the crime scene, multiple shell casings and a weapon were discovered. Detectives from District 1 are investigating.

A man was killed and another was injured early Sunday morning in West Town. They were shot inside a business in the 2100 block of West Division Street at 1:30 a.m., according to Chicago police. According to police, the first victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he later died. The other man was shot in the left calf and transported to the same hospital, where his condition was listed as stable. No one was detained.

In a shootout early Sunday morning at the Lyon’s Den Hookah Lounge in Ukrainian Village, two people were shot, one fatally. The incident began when the suspect attempted to enter the bar while armed. According to police, the victims fired back at the suspect, who fled after being shot. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of them was pronounced deceased. A man was shot during an armed robbery early Saturday morning in the North Side neighborhood of West Rogers Park. Four suspects entered a business in the 2700 block of West Touhy at 5:15 a.m. and approached the cash register, according to Chicago police. According to police, one of the suspects opened fire, striking the victim in the right leg. Officials reported that he was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition was stabilized. According to police, the suspects stole cash from the register and fled. No one was detained.

A shooting early Saturday morning in the Wicker Park neighborhood injured three men. The men were walking in an alley in the 1400 block of North Honore Street at 2:05 a.m. when a male suspect approached them and began shouting before opening fire, according to Chicago police. A 38-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to police. Another 28-year-old man was shot in the groin and abdomen and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The third victim, a 26-year-old man shot twice in the chest and transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, according to police. Detectives from Area Five are investigating.


Friday night, two men were shot and killed inside an Avalon Park residence. The men were inside a home in the 8600 block of South Constance Avenue at 10:35 p.m. when shots were fired, according to Chicago police. Witnesses in the residence reported hearing a loud noise following my gunshots, according to police. The men, ages 23 and 30, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police. No arrests were made.
