A man has been charged in the River North shooting that killed a 26-year-old woman and injured her sister, according to Chicago police.

A 36-year-old Chicago man was charged Wednesday morning in connection with a double shooting in River North last year that killed one sister and injured another.

Jason McMahan has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and warrant issuance.

According to CPD, McMahan shot and killed Tashawnna Anderson, 26, and seriously injured her sister, 31-year-old LaShawn Anderson, shortly after 1 a.m. on April 30.

According to family, Tashawnna Anderson was inside the 10Pin Bowling Lounge in River North when she caught her friend’s boyfriend with another woman.

Tashawnna Anderson went outside with a friend later that night in the 300-block of North State Street to confront the boyfriend.

LaShawn Anderson claims she saw the man get out of the passenger side of the car and punch her cousin to the ground before aiming at the two sisters. Both of them were able to reach the other right where LaShawn Anderson claimed she was working desperately to save her sister’s life.

“‘He shot me!’ she exclaimed. ‘He shot me,’ I said “She stated. “I was putting pressure on her wound so it wouldn’t bleed out no more.”

Tashawnna Anderson, however, did not make it as the alleged shooter drove away.

“What makes you think you’d shoot my sister? She wasn’t going to argue with him for nothing! She wasn’t even debating him. She was advocating for a friend “At the time, LaShawn Anderson stated. “She instructed me to tell her daughter how much she adores her. She stopped breathing after that.”

LaShawn Anderson was barely able to walk after being shot in the thigh and witnessing her sister’s death.

“It just happened so fast,” LaShawn explained.

McMahan is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday.
