A man and a woman have been charged in connection with a violent home invasion near O’Hare Airport that critically injured an elderly man.
Mansfield Wallace, 51, and Tabitha Hemphill, 31, knocked on the door of a home in the 8500 block of West Catherine Avenue on Monday morning, according to police.
According to police, when an 80-year-old man opened the door, they forced their way inside and began fighting with the victim.
According to police, the man, who had a FOID card, fired a single shot, striking Wallace in the chest.
Wallace and Hemphill both fled the scene and were self-transported to Resurrection Hospital, where Wallace was listed in critical condition, according to officials. Hemphill was unharmed in the incident.
The elderly man was injured throughout his body and was taken to Resurrection Hospital in critical condition.
Wallace was charged with home invasion resulting in bodily harm, aggravated battery of a victim over the age of 60, and aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. Hemphill was charged with causing great bodily harm in a home invasion.
Both are due back in bond court on Wednesday.
