After punching a woman in a Geneva bar and avoiding trial, a Morris man was sentenced to prison.
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney, David Hietschold was sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated battery in 2021.
According to officials, Hietschold was at Third Street Station, a bar in the 300 block of Crescent Place, when he surprised the victim with a closed-fist punch to the head that knocked her unconscious.
Prior to the incident, the victim had never met Hietschold. In an ambulance, she was taken to a nearby hospital.
Despite Hietschold’s absence, the trial and sentencing hearings took place. On July 22, 2022, he was last seen in court.
When he failed to appear for his trial, a judge issued an arrest warrant.
In October 2022, Hietschold was found guilty of aggravated battery.
