A Cook County man shot a juvenile in a gang-related shooting, according to police.

A Des Plaines man has been charged in connection with a gang-related shooting in Mount Prospect last year.

Christian Longsworth, 26, is charged with attempted murder.

Mount Prospect officers responded to the 1900 block of Seneca Lane on Oct. 18, 2022, for a report of shots fired and a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers arrived and found a juvenile victim with a single gunshot wound and rendered aid.

The child was then taken to a nearby hospital.

During the course of their investigation, police discovered that the victim and four friends were walking near Aspen Drive and Aztec Lane when they were approached by three people on foot.

According to police, gang-related comments were yelled before shots were fired at the victim and his four friends.

The victim fled on foot, while the perpetrator returned to a nearby parked vehicle and fled the scene.

According to police, none of the victims live in Mount Prospect.

According to police, officers discovered multiple shell casings near the intersection of Aspen Drive and Aztec Lane.

Mount Prospect police said they linked physical and digital evidence from the shooting scene to Longsworth. When he was arrested by another law enforcement agency on an unrelated charge on Oct. 24, 2022, he was found to be in possession of a firearm used in the shooting.

On Monday, Longsworth was charged with attempted murder.

He appeared in bond court on Wednesday and was denied bond, so he remains in custody.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 3.
