An off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officer was among two people injured in a drive-by shooting in the South Loop early Monday.
Just before 1 a.m., the 31-year-old was standing on the sidewalk with a 27-year-old woman in the first block of East Cermak Road when someone in a pickup truck began shooting in their direction, according to police.
The gunfire hit him in the back and arms. According to police, the off-duty officer self-transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
The woman was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition after suffering graze wounds to her face and legs.
As Area Three detectives conduct their investigation, no one is in custody.
